Environmental Issues on Global Health
Health heavily relies
on the environmental issues that are in the world over. The environmental
issues can be a health hazard at times, as I will discuss below. Human
activities are what have made the environment keep changing and have diverse
effects.
Desertification
Human
activities such as deforestation are some of those things that have led to a
change in the environment. People have taken to clearing forests and water
catchment areas. This has led to desert and the rains have become scarce.
Land
degradation
Deforestation
leads to reduced availability of fresh air since trees freshens the
atmosphere. Many sicknesses reported are
because the environment is not clean as it used to be.
Freshwater
decline
Contamination
of marine water is on the rise. Ships
that leak make the water dirty. The lack of clean water for human consumption
has led to people taking the contaminated water and the repercussions are far
reaching (Edlin & Golanty, 2009). Waterborne diseases are a common issue
among people consuming water from the water masses.

Ozone
layer depletion
In
the recent times, there has been a lot of ozone layer depletion. This
environmental hazard is because of the release of poisonous gases that emanate
from industries. The nitrogenous gases keep eroding the ozone layer, which
filters harmful rays from the sun. This has been a health hazard because it has
led to skin related diseases like skin cancer.
Loss
of ecosystems
Human
activities such as poaching have also had lots of far reaching effects on human
health. This is because clearing of some lives have led to an ecosystem that is
not balanced. Every organism has his or her own function and getting rid of
them leads to depletion in the environment. This later leads to health issues.
Spread
of GMOS
The
spread of GMOS contaminates the environs. Such agents as wind and water spread
such things. Contamination of the environment is a health hazard since the GMOs
interfere with the natural genetic makeup.
Which
of them is the most damaging?
Depletion
of the ozone layer is the most dangerous to the environment because it brings
about such hazards as skin cancer and unpredictable weather changes like sudden
flood (Richard, 2008). Cancer of the eyes comes as regards the direct rays from
the sun.
Issues
affecting health care
Culture
Culture
affects the health at large because many people have diverse practices that
determine whether these people seek medical attention. This has had very far
reaching effects o the health sector at large.
Insurance
The
health insurance is another issue that has been there for a while now. The fact
that many people do not apply for this insurances has forced them to fall into
treatment problems once they fall ill and they do not access right treatment.
Income
and location
The
health institutions come across the problem of availing health services to
patients who cannot afford it at all (Richard, 2008). Some hospitals are also
located far away from the access of the patients posing a challenge to them.
Cost
of medication, eating habits and beliefs
Many
pharmacies sell their medicines at a very high price forcing many patients shy
away for purchasing their medicines. People have also adapted bad eating
habits, which have continued to worsen their health. Many beliefs do not also
allow people to seek medical attention and thus continue visiting their
traditional herbalists.
Proposal
Pros Cons Future Outlook
In
future, people should strive to get health insurances, adopt good eating habits
and tolerate only those beliefs that matter to their health.
